"A different language is a different vision of life."
Federico Fellini

The aim of the MFL curriculum at Sherrier is to give children a foundation in the ability to understand and speak an additional language. Our topic – The French Speaking World - introduces the culture of French-speaking countries and communities. It aims to foster children’s curiosity and help deepen their understanding of the world. An additional aim of the MFL curriculum is to provide a greater understanding and awareness of the English language, where children are able to make structural and grammatical comparisons between foreign languages and their own.

At Sherrier, our intent, when teaching MFL, is to enable pupils to become effective users of language, showing understanding and respect for different cultures in our local, national and global communities. We want children to leave Sherrier inspired to develop a love of languages and to expand their horizons to other countries, cultures and people. We aim to help children grow into creative and compassionate language learners who are community-minded, as well as being able to provide them with a foundation that will equip them for further language studies.
