PUPIL PREMIUM
Pupil Premium is funding given to schools to address inequalities and enable support to reach the pupils who need it most. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility. As an inclusive school, Sherrier strongly believes that no pupil should be disadvantaged as a result of background and the consistent attainment and progress of our pupils over a number of years shows our commitment.
At Sherrier, we address barriers to the educational achievement of children eligible for this grant holistically. As well as funding a number of programmes and intervention groups to boost pupils' attainment and progress, we ensure that disadvantaged pupils have access alongside their peers to extra-curricular opportunities to boost their health, well-being and self-esteem., which also impacts on attendance. This also includes children who have been 'looked after' (i.e. in care) at some point in their lives also enabled us to increase focused pastoral support and help for pupils to develop positive attitudes to themselves as individuals and to learning and relationships. Many of the pupils eligible for the grant also have additional special educational needs.
The impact of these initiatives is measured by the progress children in this group make in comparison to their peers as well as to their ability to access learning and attend regularly. Successful models of targeted intervention, alternative provision and pastoral support for individuals and groups is continuing this academic year, provided by our Pastoral Manager, our Forest School Leader and Intervention Support Teaching Assistants.
Free School Meals
All pupils eligible for Free School Meals are entitled to additional funding to further support their education and well-being and to raise their attainment.
If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals then please use the link above to apply directly to Leicestershire County Council. Please note that if you have more than one child, you will need to apply for each child separately.

Are you entitled to Free School Meals?
To receive Free School Meals you only need to have any one of the following:-

Income Support
-
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

The guaranteed element of Pension Credit

Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get).
If you claim for a Free School Meal then your child will be entitled to the following:-

Food vouchers during school holidays.

Additional funding for support, tuition or equipment in the classroom.

School trips subsidised.

A free school meal that you may choose to receive.

Pastoral support both at home and at school.
The school will benefit by receiving extra funding for all children in school eligible for Pupil Premium to allow us to cater for your child's needs and given them the little 'extras' they deserve to help them at school.
By registering for a F.S.M. your child has the option to have a school meal at lunchtime or, alternatively, you can still provide a packed lunch if they prefer not to have a hot dinner. Either way you will become eligible for the funding as detailed above
Pupil Premium Strategy at Sherrier
The funding will be used to narrow and close the gap between the achievement of those pupils identified as pupil premium and their peers. The school will ensure it reaches the pupils who need it the most and that it makes a significant impact on their education and lives. The learning and experiences funded by the pupil premium grant will be allocated on evidence based research as to most effective practices. The impact on the funding will be audited regularly in order to ensure it is being used effectively to close the gap for eligible pupils.
